JAKARTA – PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) is taking strategic steps to reduce national logistics costs, ranging from integrating ports to streamlining logistics routes. Pelindo’s Group Head of Corporate Secretariat, Ardhy Wahyu Basuki, revealed that the company has implemented a series of initiatives to enhance logistics efficiency, directly impacting the reduction of distribution time and costs.
One of Pelindo’s strategic measures is integrating ports with industrial zones.“This initiative aims to facilitate the movement of goods from production centers to the export process, significantly cutting down distribution time and costs,” Ardhy said to Bisnis on Thursday (November 7, 2024).
Additionally, Pelindo is optimizing logistics route efficiency by implementing the hub-and-spoke concept through cargo consolidation at main ports or hubs. According to Ardhy, this approach seeks to create balanced economic activity across Indonesia by ensuring goods can move more efficiently to remote areas of the country.
In executing these strategies, Pelindo consistently improves and transforms its operational services. One initiative includes standardizing services, which has resulted in reduced ship port stays and cargo dwell times. For example, the implementation of standardized container service operations at Sorong Port has yielded significant results. Container service productivity at Sorong Port increased from an average of 10 boxes per hour to 24 boxes per hour, reducing port stays from 72 hours or three days to an average of only 24 hours or one day.
Furthermore, Pelindo is adopting digitalization across various aspects of its operational services. Container service systems, known as Palapa, as well as non-container service systems (PTOS-M) and vessel service systems, have been implemented to expedite and simplify logistics processes at ports.“This digitalization is a crucial step in ensuring transparent, fast, and efficient services at our ports,” Ardhy added.
